Lettmann has had a great offer of progressive canoe designs since 1963. The material is hereby very important. We present the performance of the future with our five matured technologies of material. After a consequent research in specific areas of different canoes and paddles, each high-quality material was coordinated with the different areas in canoeing.
Today, we offer more dynamic on the water with our materials HD-PE, GfK, DCS, LCS and VCS. Lettmann makes it possible for you to find your own sort of material and product. We know that active canoeists, as we are, demand a lot of the material and the equipment.
Carbon
The carbon rovings achieve a maximum stiffness combined with lateral strength.
Aramid
The aramid rovings renown for their impact strength.
Hybrid
It is woven together to give the perfect combination of carbon and aramid.
Diolen
Diolen has the highest impact strength in traditional boat building.
VCS (Vacuum-Composite-System)
The VCS is the high-performance technology for ultra light kayaks and open canoes. The VCS-Semi custom construction puts all materials of roving without water in the negative mould and uses a vacuum. Now, the high-quality epoxy resin will be added. The used epoxy resin is very stiff still to a temperature of 120°. This costly vacuum infiltration technique is a really exemplary technology and also the secret of the new lightness and extreme thickness of a boat. The VCS-system is really environmentally. All boats provide an about 30 – 40 % higher stiffness combined with a weight reduction of 5 – 10 %.
LCS (Light-Composite-System)
The LCS is a well-developed lightweight technology with an excellent durability in every using. The combination of carbon, aramid, glass fibre and sandwich materials will be varied for every product and bonded with epoxy resin. Carbon offers a maximum power and the highest stiffness of the lightweight construction. Carbon and aramid are woven together and offer a perfect combination of Stiffness and impact strength. Really excellent for the racing sport or touring, white water and rodeo paddlers.
DCS (Diolen-Composite-System)
This technology uses diolen glass fibre and sandwich materials together high-quality polyester. This quality convinces with its long durability and maximum stiffness. It’s a robust and well-developed combination of materials for the all-rounder.
HD-PE (High Density Polyethylen)
Kayaks and open canoes of Lettmann, the first German boats builder, are made of a high HD-PE quality in Moers. Linear HD-PE provides an outstanding high thickness, stiffness and long durability. Lettmann’s HD-PE sandwich technology was developed in 1986 and was a pioneer of the rotary technique. This technology offers many advantages: less weight, stable form, high stiffness. It is very robust, easy to care and to repair and it isolated the cold of the water.
